VALMA's electromagnetic pneumatic pilot valves of the PIV-S-D series are designed to control rotary pneumatic actuators, pneumatic cylinders or other double-acting pneumatic actuators (without return springs). These pneumatic valves are pneumatic control valves of the spool type. Unlike direct-acting valves, spool-type valves have significantly higher throughput while maintaining low energy consumption. This allows the use of the PIV-S-D series valves to control large pneumatic cylinders or in cases where high actuation speeds are required.
The PIV-S-D control valves have a pneumatic function of 5/3. This means that the valve has 5 ports and can be in one of 3 states. When connected to a pneumatic cylinder, one of these states ensures that the rod is extended, another ensures that it is retracted, and the third ensures that it stops in its current position. Two coils of the PIV-S-D distributor are responsible for the valve states leading to the movement of the stem, and the valve enters the third state when no voltage is applied to any of the coils.
